Shots were fired at a westbound BNSF Railway train east of Chinook early Saturday morning, and the company is offering a $2,500 reward for information.
No one was injured, but the train was forced to stop. There was damage to the train, said BNSF spokesman Matt Ones, but he declined to say how badly damaged the train was.
He said BNSF police are working with Blaine County authorities to try to track down who was responsible.
He said the company has no idea why anyone would want to take shots at the train.
He said the incident took place near the rail crossing of Elmore Road and U.S. Highway 2. He asked that anyone with information on the shooting contact the Crime Tip Line at 800-832-5452.
