From the Fringe...
When the 2015 Class A-C state track meet concluded last Saturday in Laurel so, too, did another year of high school sports. And, for sports junkies like me, that’s kind of sad.
When the spring sports ended last weekend, it was also the end of a very special year in high school sports on the Hi-Line.
Once again, the Hi-Line, and Havre High was littered with tremendous sports moments. There were so many exciting moments this past school year that it would take a lot more space than I have in this column to name them all.
Nevertheless, just because I’m not going to type them all out here, it doesn’t mean I will forget any of them. No, I won’t forget the fall, the winter or the spring because in each season, great memories were made, and the coaches and athletes of all the sports in our coverage area proved once again that Havre and the Hi-Line is one of the epicenters of the high school sports landscape in Montana.
Yes, there’s no way that anyone can say our coverage area doesn’t stack up very well against the rest of the state when it comes to high school sports. After all, in football, basketball and wrestling, state trophies came back to the Hi-Line this season. And that’s just for starters.
There were so many All-State athletes from the Hi-Line, it would be interesting to count them all up and get an exact total, and maybe I’ll do that real soon and let you all know just how many of those we garnered.
No, there’s no denying it was another special high school sports season. It was special for all of us, and now that it’s over, I’d like to make sure the student-athletes, the coaches, the schools and the fans know how much we, as sports journalists, appreciate what you do. We appreciate your effort and determination and your dedication, and we appreciate it because you are the reason we do what we do, and you all help make our sports section what it is every day.
So thank you to all of you who helped make this another amazing school year in sports. And for those of you coming back, and for those of you just coming into high school, we’ll see you next fall.
And I have no doubt, next year will be just as fun, and just as special, because, that’s just the way we do it around here.
