News you can use
We are about to start a holiday weekend, with sunny weather in the forecast. It doesn’t seem like a time to have darts on our mind. So how about some laurels to celebrate the great things going on in our community.
Laurel — To the veterans groups, the Elks Club and all the Havre residents who work to hold the annual Memorial Day ceremonies on the Hill County Courthouse lawn, we give our thanks. Take time out on Monday to attend the services at 11 a.m., which honor the very reason for which Memorial Day was founded. Honor the many people who will never have the opportunity to see their children grow up or have the chance to have children at all. Honor the families the deceased have left behind. You’ll feel good after taking part in the simple but beautiful ceremonies.
Laurel — Saturday, people will gather for a benefit picnic at the Student Union Building for the three students who are recovering from a vicious stabbing by someone who broke into their Highland Park apartment. The stabbings terrorised everyone in Havre, but it brought the community closer together. We feel such sorrow for the students and want to help them out. You can do that Saturday.
Laurel — Two women from Lewistown told a group in Havre Wednesday night of their years-long fight against mental illness. They were inspiring stories, providing hope to people who suffer from the disease. The problem is that a lot of people aren’t aware of the kind of help that is available. Organizers of the National Alliance on Mental Illness say there are a lot of people on the Hi-Line who are not getting any help in coping with their problems. A local NAMI affiliate is being founded. Best of luck to the organizers. Working together, they can help themselves and can help others.
Laurel — Rocky Boy High School graduated its senior class Thursday night, and commencement ceremonies will take place this weekend in Havre, Box Elder, Chinook and Big Sandy. Best of luck to all the graduates. We wish you a happy and successful post-graduation life. And we hope you decided to spend it on the Hi-Line.
