Harlem High grads step onto stage, into next stage

The 2015 Harlem High School graduating class took their diplomas Sunday like a baton into the next leg of their lives.

Rhonda Baker, superintendent of Harlem schools, spoke to the graduating class, their friends and family who were gathered in the gymnasium Sunday afternoon.

"Today is the first day of a world of opportunities for each of you," Baker said.

Brenden Johnson, the salutatorian, and Denton Cornell, the valedictorian, both spoke sentiments of their time through high school with their classmates.

Lyle Faulkinberry, the commencement speaker for the class of 2015, said in his speech that it was a great day to be a Harlem Wildcat.

"Everything changes after today," Faulkinberry said.

Mistakes will be made as the graduates move through life, Faulkinberry said.

"Take a chance," he said. "Don't sit or stay in your comfort zone."

A slideshow of the graduates was shown to those gathered, and the lives and personalities of each former student was showcased before they embarked on the next stage of their lives.
