Composer and/pianist Philip Aaberg will be featured in a National Composer Night Out event Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m. at Liberty Village Arts Center & Gallery in Chester.
Music lovers, students, composers and musicians from north-central Montana are invited to gather at 7 p.m. for the only Montana event taking place as part of American Composers Forum’s first annual National Composer Night Out. The event will be live streamed on the American Composers Forum site, along with all other events across the country.
The event in Chester features:
• A brief talk/demonstration on composing, and
• A display of manuscripts and scores.
Composing on the Run, with Aaberg seated at the 7-foot Yamaha grand piano, will give attendees a chance to purchase from the Bucket O’Notes — $5 bucks a note.
When they’ve reached five notes, Aaberg will compose a piece on the spot.
Or people can bring two song titles and he’ll perform them improvised together as one piece. Suggested donation is $10.
And bring sheet music — or pick from the box available — and have a song performed ... or at least an interesting version of it.
All donations benefit the Liberty Village Arts Center & Gallery.
The session will conclude with End of the Evening Jam Session. People are. invited to bring their own instruments and join in.
Refreshments will be served.
