Fort Belknap man gets 2.5 years for strangulation

A Fort Belknap Indian Reservation man who pleaded guilty to strangling his girlfriend was sentenced Monday to 30 months in federal prison.

Kyle Young, 33, was sentenced to the Bureau of Prisons for 30 months, two years of supervised release and a $100 court assessment fee.

Young is a former law enforcement officer. October 13 2014, a woman told a Fort Belknap investigator and a Federal Bureau of Investigations agent the he strangled her multiple times on separate occasions, according to court documents. One occasion, he strangled her until she started seeing stars, she told investigators.

She told officers that he had pointed his officer’s weapon at her head and threatened to kill her, saying he was “going to end her.”

He pleaded guilty in the Missouri River Federal Courthouse Jan. 20 to a charge of strangulation. The plaintiff, the United States, agreed to dismiss five other charges of strangulation and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
