Two important members of Northern Montana College women's basketball team's 1993 NAIA national championship team will be honored this weekend in Havre.
Tonight, former Northern head coach Sherry Winn and former All-American Charna Ophus-Seibert will be inducted into the Northern Foundation Athletic Hall of Fame.
Winn coached the Skylights basketball team to five straight Frontier Conference championships and five straight NAIA Division II National Championship appearances, winning the title in 1993. Northern had a total record of 137-19 during her five-year tenor. Winn was also a part of the U.S. handball teams during the 1984 and 1988 Olympic. She also coached basketball at Minnesota-Morris, and the University of Charleston.
Ophus-Seibert, a native of Big Sandy, was a player on that 1993 championship team. She was a four-time Academic All-Conference basketball player, and an Academic All-American selection in basketball and volleyball. She holds Northern's career record for assists (641), and season record for steals (99), and recorded the Skylights first ever triple-double.
The Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in conjunction with MSU-Northern's Founder's Excellence Award presentation ceremony will be tonight in the Student Union Building Ballroom on MSU-Northern's campus. Tickets for the event are $25 per person and include dinner. The ceremony will begin at 6 tonight.
