Grain Growers award scholarships to local students

From Montana Grain Growers Association

The Montana Grain Growers Association and the Montana Grains Foundation have announced the recipients of their college scholarships for school year 2015-16.

The MGGA $1,000 scholarship winners are:

Parker Broyles of Rapelje will be a sophomore at Montana State Univerrsity-Northern in Havre, majoring in diesel technology with a minor in applied agriculture. Parker hopes one day to own and operate his own diesel repair business or become a manager of a large farm repair business because he understands how critical it is to have equipment working well when it's needed.

Mackenzie Hansen, a high school senior from Gildford, plans to attend Carroll College in Helena or Montana State University in Bozeman to major in pre-veterinary sciences or biology/animal sciences with a focus on large animals as she wishes to return to the agricultural community when she completes her schooling.

The MGF $2,000 scholarship winners are:

Brittney Brewer will graduate next spring from MSU with a crop science degree, and plans to continue on to graduate school. She has a passion for plant genetics and breeding and has specifically enjoyed working on the current breeding efforts with spring wheat. Brittney believes it is important to connect with the farmers in any given community to better understand what their desires are for the next generation of crop varieties.

Hannah Estabrooks is a graduate student in plant sciences at MSU. Her application essay stated, “I will dedicate my career to plant sciences and improved agriculture through the development of grains which are less dependent on inputs, more resistant to stress, of higher nutritional and consumer value, and through resource conservation. I fell in love with Montana the first day I arrived and a combination of deep reverence for the landscape and devoted passion for agriculture keep my heart rooted to this state.”
