Havre event set for National Day of Prayer May 7

Havre will observe the 64th Annual National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 7, at noon at Town Square.

This year’s theme is “Lord, Hear Our Cry,” which is inspired by I Kings 8:28: “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.”

Edroy Curtis, president of the Greater Havre Area Ministerial Association and lead pastor of Havre’s Assembly of God Church, said this is a free event that anyone can attend.

“We basically pray for our country,” he said. “Usually for about the half-hour prior we do some worship music. … Each church brings some food as well.”

Curtis said most of the churches in town participate in this event.

“I know that the church-going people of Havre enjoy the things we do when we get them out of their separate buildings and get them together in a corporate setting,” he said. “The more activities we have of those in the community, the more it enables Christians of all denominations to get together — and that’s important.”

Curtis added the points of prayer will include government, church, military, families, education, media and businesses.

John Ulrich, pastor of Van Orsdel United Methodist Church will be speaking at this year’s event.

Tim Zerger, pastor of Havre’s Community Alliance Church, will be leading the music portion.

“Some of the songs will be patriotic hymns, and some of the songs that we will do will be uplifting, contemporary Christian-praised songs,” he said. “There’s a real spirit of unity amongst the Christian community. No matter what church you attend, you can come and be part of this event and contribute to it.”
