Annual Top 10 Meet will feature plenty of Hi-Line track stars
Although the Havre High track teams are still three weeks away from competing in the Central A divisional, the season is starting to wind down to the closing stretch, which is symbolized by the annual Glasgow Top 10 meet that the Blue Ponies will compete in today in Glasgow.
The meet, which invites the Top 10 performers from the area to compete in each of the events is always prestigious and that will be no different this year as a number of Havre boys and girls have qualified to represent the Ponies.
"We have a number of kids on both teams that will be competing so that is a good thing, it's fun for the kids to go down there and compete and get a little more than fan fare," Ita said. "But one thing we want to be careful about is that there is not much time between our last meet in Whitefish and the Top 10, so we just want to make sure we are not overworking our kids and that we are getting them through it healthy."
The Havre boys will be led by sprinters Nate Rismon and Michael Loftus, who each qualified for multiple events. Rismon will compete as the No. 3 seed in the 200-meter dash thanks to a qualifying time of 23.16 as well as the top seed in the 400 with a time of 51.18. Loftus, on the other hand, will head to Glasgow as the third seed in the 100 with a time of 11.43 and as the fifth seed in the 200 with a time of 23.81.
In the 800, the Pony boys will be represented by Luke Karnauskas, who will come into the meet as the fourth seed with a time of of 2:12.66. Havre also brings the top-seeded 400 relay team with a time of 45.5 and a third-seeded 1,600 relay team with a time of 3:40.47. The 400 relay team will consist of Rismon, Loftus, Gunnar Aageson and Jacob LaBrie, while the 1,600 team will be the same with the exception of Ivar Aageson running instead of Gunnar Aageson.
Others who qualified for the meet for the HHS boys are Nick Keller, who qualified for the high jump with a jump of 6-0, as well as Richard Belcourt in the long jump with a jump of 19-9. Gunnar Aageson also comes in as third-seeded pole vaulter with a height of 12-6. Ivar Aageson also made it into the pole vault with a vault of 11-6.
The Havre girls also had a solid number of athletes work their way into the meet this year, led by Logan Huebsch, Rachel David and Megan Erickson, who each qualified for multiple individual events.
Huebsch, a freshman, will compete in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. She will be seeded sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.72 and third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 49.87. Ireland Coyne will also compete in the 100 hurdles, seeded fourth with a time of 17.24.
David and Erickson, who have competed well in the distance runs all year for Havre, will represent the Ponies again in those races today. David made it in the 400 and the 800 as the seventh seed with times of 65.29 and 2:38.59, respectively. Erickson, on the other hand, qualified for the 800 in the eight spot with a time of 2:40.73 and for the 1,600 as the No. 10 seed with a time of 6:02.09.
The other individuals who qualified for the meet on the girls team were Carleigh Rennick, who made it into the discus as the No. 9 seed with a throw of 95-9, and Naomi Terry, who made the 300 hurdles as the fifth seed with a time of 50.55.
The Pony girls also qualified both relay teams and will be seeded seventh in the short relay with a time of 54.06 and sixth in the long relay with a time of 4:30.23. The short relay team will be made up of Terry, Huebsch, Corrissa White and Kaylee Nystrom. The long relay team will also feature Terry and Nystrom along with David and Erickson.
The Top 10 meet will begin at 3 p.m., today in Glasgow and will feature the top athletes from Classes A, B and C from around the area.
