From Tee to Green...
I admit, I keep waiting for the shoe to drop, and for the nasty spring weather we’re all used to around to show up. But, I also admit, I can’t complain that it hasn’t.
And under what should be beautiful weather the next two nights, the first week of men’s league golf will start at Prairie Farms Golf Course. The first round is slated for tonight, with the Wednesday night league getting started tomorrow. Stay tuned to this column every Tuesday for all of the local golf league results.
Last week’s column took a look at all of the upcoming tournaments in our area this spring and summer. But, before the summer arrives, there is some high school golf that has to be played in our area.
The Class B-C golf season is in full swing right now, and fans should take notice of the Chinook boys golf team. The Sugarbeeters are having an excellent season and are contenders for a Class C title this spring.
Head coach Mike Seymour’s Chinook teams have a busy schedule left, and this weekend, two of their meets will be local. Chinook will play in the Harlem Invitational Friday afternoon, then the Beeters will host their own invite Saturday at the Chinook Golf Club. Saturday’s 18-hole tournament will be the final tune up for the Beeters before they head to the Class C state tournament May 11-13 at Marias Valley Golf Club in Shelby.
Speaking of high school golf, the Montana High School Association recently announced its dates and sites for state tournaments for the next two calender years. For the Havre High golf teams, the 2015 Class A state tournament will be played at the Sidney Golf Club in Sidney Oct. 2-3, while the Class AA state tournament will be held in Helena that same weekend. The 2016 Class A state tournament was awarded to Hamilton Golf Club, which also held the 2014 Class A state tournament, and will also host the 2016 Class C state tourney next spring. Billings was awarded the 2016 Class AA state tournament, while Marias Valley in Shelby was given the 2017 Class B state tournament. A course for the 2017 Class C state tournament has yet to be determined.
Finally, the Montana State University-Northern golf teams are in Phoenix, Arizona, this week for the Frontier Conference Championships. The Lights and Skylights will play 54 holes over the next two days in the tournament which decides which men’s and women’s teams from the Frontier advance to NAIA national tournament next month. The tournament is being held at Awatuhkee Golf Club and has been moved out of Montana for the first time in quite some time.
See this column next week for complete Northern results.
