Weather service is presenting a Skywarn class to train people to be weather spotters, and an announcement of the class says all are welcome to attend the free event.
According to the Skywarn website, the federal National Oceanographic and Admospheric Administration’s National Weather Service, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, established Skywarn with partner organizations to obtain critical weather information on the local level.
Skywarn is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters, the website says, who help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.
Although Skywarn spotters provide essential information for all types of weather hazards, the main responsibility of a Skywarn spotter is to identify and describe severe local storms, the site adds.
The Havre class is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Hill County Detention Center on 2nd Street West.
