While other spring sports have been in full gear for a few weeks now, the Hi-Line United soccer teams were finally able to get in on the act this past weekend as both the U-19 and U-14 teams got their 2015 seasons underway.
While the U-14 team got to open its season on its home field, the U-19 team had to hit the road to kick things off and ended up dropping both games, falling to Sidney by the score of 2-1 and then dropping a second game to Laurel by the score of 3-2.
Trey Scofield ended up scoring the lone goal for the United in the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sidney, while Marcio Camara managed to find the net twice for the United against Laurel and had an impressive performance despite the loss.
"While we didn't come out of our first weekend with a win, I'm impressed with how everyone played,” United coach John Harkins said. “I'm especially impressed with our newer players. They really stepped up and showed a lot of heart. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season and have high expectations for the team."
The U-14 team had the benefit of playing on its home turf but even with that, the United didn't have the kind of opening day they were hoping for as they dropped their first game to Miles City by the score of 3-0. The United then followed that up with a 7-1 defeat at the hands of a Great Falls select team. The bright spot for the United though, was Rowland Snyder, who found the net against Great Falls to help the U-14 team avoid a shutout.
The U-14 team will be back in action this Saturday when it heads to Butte where it will take on Red Lodge at 1:30 p.m., and Polson at 4:30 p.m. The U-19 team will be off until April 25 when it will travel to Miles City to take on both Miles City and Big Timber.
