Helping the people at 911 when calling 911 - notice and remember details

As part of National Telecommunications Week, Havre Police Department's 911 dispatchers are trying to educate the public about how they can best help emergency responders during a crisis. Today, we look at what to try to remember about a person or a car the flees from the scene of a crime

Try to note the following characteristics of a person at a crime scene:

• Gender

• Race

• Age

• Heighth

• Weight

• Hair color, length

• Eyes

• Complexion

• Scars

• Weapon

• Clothing

• Build - pot belly? Skinny?

• Location last seen

• Direction of travel

• Unusual characteristics: Glasses? Beads? Jewelry?

Try to notice this kind of information about cars that may be leaving the scene:

• Two-door? Four-door? Convertible. Van? Truck? Sports car? Station wagon? Motorcycle?

• Make? Year? Full sized? compact?

• Color - top and bottom

• License number, license color, state it is registered to.

• How many in vehicle? Male? Female?

• Unusual characteristics - dents, marks, lights, bumper

• Location last seen?

• Direction of travel.
