Obituary - Clarice Mae Petrick

Clarice Mae Petrick was born April 11, 1922, in Hingham to Albert and Clara (Olson) Petrick.

Because she was born with hearing/speech impairments, she attended school at Boulder, where she learned sign language and speaking skills. In 1939 she completed her secondary education at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind in Great Falls. Clarice continued her schooling at Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., where she earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1944. For the next five years she taught at schools in Washington, Illinois and Arizona.

In 1950, Clarice moved to Great Falls to work at the First National Bank. Six years later she took a job with the USDA Forest Service in Missoula, where she worked faithfully as a file clerk, typist and bookkeeper for 26 years

When she retired in 1982, she moved to Chester to help care for her ailing mother. Chester was her home from that time on. She enjoyed many memorable trips to interesting destinations throughout the world and lived independently until 2014, when she entered the Chester nursing home due to health issues. She died there on March 27, 2015, at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert, Eugene and Alvin, and a great-niece, Brooke.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Margaret Petrick of Hingham; four nephews, Terry, Ron/Debby and Ray/Lynn, all of Hingham, and Bruce Petrick of California; one niece, Barb Petrick of Oregon; great great-nephews, David, Ryan and Brent; and a dear friend, Velma Christensen of Havre.

Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hingham Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday, April 9, at the Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester.

Memorials may be offered to the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind at Great Falls, Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., or to the donor's choice.
