Havre Lions swimmers shine

The Havre Lions Swim Team had twelve swimmers who qualified to compete in the Montana Short Course State Championship in Butte which was held March 6-8.

Swimmers who competed for the Havre team were: Kobi Burchard, Kyla Burchard, Addyson Lewis, Ellyn Lewis, Hannah Lunak, Amelia Miller, Jacob Miller, Pia Morrelli, Andrew Padgett, Natalie Padgett, Stephanie Padgett, and Carson Sandstrom. The HLST had a girls 10U relay team which was composed of Kyla Burchard, Addyson Lewis, Natalie Padgett, and Stephanie Padgett. The relay team took home second place in their 400 yard freestyle relay and fourth place in their 200 yard individual medley relay. All the swimmers did a wonderful job of competing against teams from all over Montana and they earned several medals and ribbons. The program would like to send a special thanks to Jill Cammon, Ashley Betzel and Clint Twombly for doing a great job of coaching these athletes.

As for the competition itself, Kyle Burchard (8) finished first in the 100 IM, first in the 50 butterfly, second in the 25 fly, second in the 25 free and second in the 50 free. Ellyn Lewis (6) finished 13th in the 25 free, 15th in the 50 backstroke, 21st in the 25 free and 31st in the 25 backstroke. Pia Morrelli (8) finished eighth in the 25 free, 11th in the 50 free, 13th in the 50 backstroke and 23rd in the 25 backstroke. Andrew Padgett (8) finished 11th in the 25 free.

Addyson Lewis (9) finished third in the 50 backstroke, fourth in the 50 free and 17th in the 50 butterfly, 11th in the 100 backstroke and 18th in the 50 breaststroke. Natalie Padgett (9) finished fifth in the 200 free, fifth in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 IM. Stephanie Padgett (10) finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke, 11th in the 50 breaststroke, 14th in the 200 free, 15th in the 100 free, 16th in the 50 backstroke and 17th in the 100 IM. Carson Sandstrom (9) finished sixth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 free, and Kobi Burchard (11) finished sixth in the 500 free, ninth in the 200 breaststroke, 12th in the 100 breaststroke, 14th in the 200 free, 14th in the 50 breaststroke, 18th in the 50 free and 21st in the 100 free.

Hannah Lunak (13) finished 19th in the 200 backstroke, 25th in the 200 free, 26th in the 50 free and 33rd 100 free. Jacob Miller (13) finished 11th in the 50 breaststroke, 14th in the 100 breaststroke, 12th in the 200 breaststroke and 24th in the 50 free. And Amelia Miller (14) finished 11th in the 50 free, 15th in the 200 breaststroke, 17th in the 200 free, 23rd in the 100 backstroke and 25th in the 200 IM.
