Leadership High School fosters life skills in students

The annual Leadership High School luncheon and awards ceremony Tuesday praised Havre High School students for their work in their studies and especially in their community.

A multitude of speakers gave the Leadership High School students their words of praise and advice. Montana State University-Northern interim Chancellor Greg Kegel, 2000 LHS graduate Dr. Kevin Harada, 2012 LHS graduate Jacob Holden, superintendent of Havre Public Schools Andy Carlson and Havre High School principal Craig Mueller all spoke to the students gathered at the MSU-Northern Student Union Building.

LHS is a program headed by Havre Public Schools and the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce. Students are selected to enter the program, in which they participate in a multitude of activities to build leadership skills and foster teamwork, including shadowing professionals in the community as they work their jobs.

The program has a large partner in Montana State University-Northern. Each student who graduates from Leadership High School is given a tuition waiver for MSU-Northern.

"Leadership is needed at all levels, not just at the top," Harada said.

This year's graduates are:

Jacob Bachmeier, Alexis Baker, Rachel Bartlett, Brittney Bergren, Jerod Boles, Mary Boucher, Lita Cammon, Kailee Collins, Madison Huebsch, Thomas Keith, Cole Keller, Keegan Kennelly, Rinnah Kinsella, Cameron Knapton, Jacqueline Martin, Adrienne Miller, Ty Pyette, Shawn Raty, Samantha Turner and Alara Vogel.
