Soccer holds pizza fundraiser

Today is Pizza Day for Hi-Line United Soccer.

Domino’s Pizza will share a portion of its take today with the club, which is hoping to upgrade its facilities.

People who get pizza or other food from Domino’s will be making a contribution oto Hi-Line United, said Dana Pyette of Hi-Line United.

Some soccer players will be in downtown Havre this afternoon with leaflets encouraging people to go to Domino’s.

People can order food from Domino’s online or by by calling 262-9300. They are open until 11 p.m. Tell the Domino’s employee you are donating to Hi-Line United.

This will be part of a two-phase fund-raising week, Pyette said.

Sunday, a free-will pancake breakfast and silent auction will be put on by the team at the Havre Eagles Club, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Merchants and others in the community have donated a variety of things that will be put up for auction, she said.

But if others want to donate items for sale, they still can, she said. Interested people should contact Pyette at 945-1359.

The partnership with Domino’s excited the team, she said, because it gives people an opportunity to enjoy pizza and other foods while making a donation to the club.

Proceeds will go directly to the club, she said.

The money will be used for a variety of educational activities, equipment and long-term goals of the club, she said.

Chief among them, she said, is purchase of new goals for the soccer field. The goals are one of the upgrades needed to make the field qualify for the state tournament.

“We hope some day that will be able host the state tournament in Havre,” she said.

Pyette said taking part in soccer has been a great experience for the kids. They have learned teamwork and have enjoyed many other advantages.

They work indirectly with the large number of soccer players in the city’s recreational program.

There are 17 players on the U-14 team. The younger team. the older team, U-19, also has 17 players.

The teams have gotten community support, she said, since it was founded in 2001, and she’s looking forward to more community support this weekend.

People can cheer on the teams at their home games, whih are scheduled for April 11 and 25 for U14 and May 16 for U19.
