When Havre youth hockey teams play for state championships inside the Havre Ice Dome, things usually work out well. And that was the case for the Havre Ice Hawks Bantam team this past weekend.
Playing on their home ice, the Ice Hawks captured the Montana Bantam B state championship, as the Ice Hawks beat Glasgow 4-2 in the championship game last Sunday at the Havre Ice Dome.
The Ice Hawk’s championship team is composed of Ethan Roberts, Barrett Kilgore, Riley Kilgore, Donovan McLain, Auggie Eacker, Cole Hanson, Elliot Hanson, Dexter Beck, Trent Shettel, Bridger Staples and Kinzee Peterson. The team was coached by Cody Nagel, Ryan McLean, Dave Peterson, Dave Zentmire and Todd Roe.
The state tournament, which started last Friday, consisted of Havre, Glasgow, Flathead and Helena. The Ice Hawks beat Helena 7-2 and Glasgow 4-1 in pool play Friday, then Havre beat Flathead 7-3 Saturday afternoon. Havre then took on Glasgow Saturday night and fell 6-3, but the Glasgow win only advanced them to the championship game against the Ice Hawks, where Havre prevailed in the rematch.
In the consolation game Sunday, Helena beat Flathead 7-2.
