HRDC benefit will help Head Start, food bank

Young people who attend District 4 HRDC's early childhood education programs and folks who need assistance with obtaining food will benefit from a fundraiser set for Saturday night at the Havre Eagles Club.

People will get a chance to buy raffle tickets or bid on items donated or hand made by local residents at HRDC's third annual A Chair at the Table benefit.

Sloppy Joes will be served starting at 5 p.m., and the auction of decorated chairs that have been made by local residents will begin at 6 p.m.

A 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and live auctions will be held throughout the night.

The chairs are always a highlight of the evening, said Karen Thomas, executive director of HRDC. Many local residents have donated time, effort and money to design the chairs, she said.

A toy wooden train designed by HRDC employee Steve Wiles will be auctioned, she said.

"It's always a fun time," she said of the event.

People will play heads or tails, truth or dare and a variety of other games, she said.

There is always a shortage of money for the classroom supplies in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, she said. The money raised in the last two benefits have helped solve some of that problem, she said.

Some of the money will go to the Havre Food Bank, where there is always a need, she said.

Auctioneer Darren Overly will keep things interesting all night, she said.
