Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Havre Basketball

Havre senior Morgan Mazurkiewicz certainly made sure her last high school basketball season was a good one. And she did the same with her last Class A state tournament. In three games last weekend, Mazurkiewicz averaged 19.3 ppg and shot better than 90 percent from the free-throw line. In Havre's win over Hardin last Thursday, the three-sport standout made an incredible 19-of-21 foul shots and scored a game-high 26 points. Mazurkiewicz, who played in four state tournaments for the Ponies, will now move on to her final season of softball.

Bubby Gopher, Rocky Boy Basketball

Rocky Boy senior Bubby Gopher averaged just around nine points per game at this past weekend's Northern B divisional tournament in Shelby. But it was just three points that mattered the most. In a semifinal game against Fairfield last Friday night, Gopher nailed a 30-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Stars to a dramatic win. And if that wasn't enough, Gopher poured in 18 points to help the Stars beat Malta 53-40 in a challenge game Monday night in Havre and advance to the Class B state tourney this weekend in Great Falls.
