Letter to the Editor: HDN reporter did good job on MAT story

Editor:

I was very pleased to see that your reporter, John Paul Schmidt, included two full paragraphs describing the new play being produced by Montana Actors’ Theatre at Cowan Hall’s Little Theatre.

In his story announcing tryouts for the plan, "The Lieutenant of Inishmore," Schmidt provided a general description of the text of the play, presented the play's humorous perspective and described the general development of the play — without giving away any information that might be vital to its enjoyment by a future audience.

I would think that such early announced information is vital to attracting people to tryouts for a drama and, later on, to attracting an audience to attend a play they find has an interesting subject matter or thematic approach.

It seems likely that many in the audience might not attend without such background information — and without a later review of the final production itself.
