Bonnie Bennett, Lea Ann Larson Relay for Life benefit set

A community tea and celebration of life benefit event, “On the Wings of Hope” for the North Central Montana Relay For Life will take place Feb. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Jude Parish Center, 440 7th Ave.

This event will honor Lea Ann Larson and Bonnie Bennett, two local woman who recently died.

Lori Roberts, board member of the Havre area Relay For Life organization, said that all of the donations from this event will be given to the North Central Montana Relay For Life under Larson and Bennett’s name.

Roberts personally knew Larson and Bennett.

She said Larson, who died of cancer, was always willing to help out.

“She was very kind, and she never complained about anything,” she said. “She was just willing to jump in.”

Roberts said Bennett was passionate about helping out the community.

“When it came to Relay, she walked around all over town and asked people for donations,” she said. “She’d sign up as a single, and she always had the most money as a single person.”

Roberts added that money raised for Relay For Life go toward helping those battling cancer.

“The money that we earn here goes toward wigs, for those (who) would like one,” she said. “It pays for transportation down to their treatments. It could pay for hotel rooms for the family members, or part of their hotel room for family members so that they can be there while their family member is in treatment.”
