Ten Pin Chatter
Last Saturday, 26 men and women bowlers took to the hardwoods to show their skills on the different oil patterns. When the step ladder ended, Roman Surber was the top dog for the second time in three years. The step ladder started with Surber defeating Shawn Burrington 219 to 182, then moving on to out score Terry Adolf 222 to 218. Bob Azure was the next opponent with 149 to 212, and finally the tournament leader, James LaBuda with 187 to 241. This is the third time LaBuda has been in second place. There were bowlers from Havre, Big Sandy, Sidney, Shelby, Chinook and Great Falls.
On Sunday the P.B.A. introduced their new scoring system to the world on a trial basis. The format is like match play in golf. Two bowlers square off each bowling a frame, if they both strike the match is even and they move on to the next frame throwing one more a piece. The bowler with the higher pin count would win that frame with 1-up. The game continues in that manner till a winner is determined, still only bowling 10 frames.
I hope this is only a trail basis as it could only be used for a step ladder and not a whole tournament to be fair. This is supposed to simpilfy the scoring so the average person would be able to understand bowling better. Good luck — I would prefer the system we have now.
