No bomb at Havre High, school re-opened

Havre High School is back in business.

Havre Public Schools Superintendent Andy Carlson said the high school is open again and will stay open until 7 p.m. so students can come to pick up books and anything they left behind when the school was suddenly evacuated shortly before noon..

There will be school Thursday, he said.

A bomb was called into the school at about noon.

Students were evacuated to Fifth Avenue Christian Church, where parents were encouraged to pick up their children.

Bomb-detection experts from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls flew in by helicopter and searched the building. They found no trace of a bomb.

Havre Police Chief Gave Matosich said police are investigating and have good leads into who made the threat.

Anderson praised students and staff for their quick response.

The were a rapid evacuation from the school to the church, he said.

He urged people when there are similar incidents to follow news media accounts of the events.

Officials are usually too busy trying to ensure student and staff safety to answer questions, he said.

"Our first priority is always safety and security," he said.
