Obituary - Laura (Sutherland) Bautista

Laura (Sutherland) Bautista, 96, passed away in Hollister, California, on Jan. 1, 2015. Laura was an enrolled member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe.

Laura was born in Rocky Boy, Montana, to Tom and Rose (Pepin) Sutherland. Laura moved to San Juan Bautista, California, in 1942 where she married Mariano Bautista.

A homemaker most her life, Laura was a faithful member of the Old Mission San Juan Bautista Parish, and later worked at the Mission Gift Shop for more than 30 years.

Laura is survived by her daughter, Sybil; daughter-in-law, Jenny; brothers, Henry (PeJohn), Louis (Walkie) and Leon Sutherland; her grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Helen Molina, Lily Rania, Rosalie Bautista, Elizabeth and Delma Sutherland; brothers, Richard (Dickie), Edward (Panther), George (Korgal) and Dennis Sutherland; and son, Mike Bautista.

Funeral services took place on Friday Jan. 9, 2015, at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista.
