Blaise Pascal is quoted as saying, “Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.” Such a simple thing is kindness.
These words ring true in a story written by R. S. Palacio. “Wonder” is the story of August Pullman a 10-year-old boy with severe facial abnormalities who goes from being homeschooled to entering fifth grade at a private middle school. Enduring taunts from his classmates, his biggest desire is to be accepted for who he is and not for his looks.
“Wonder” is a page turner filled with characters you will not soon forget. A story of quiet transformations and friendship. Look for this book in the junior section of the Havre-Hill County Library. This book is well worth your reading time no matter what your age.
Thursday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m., the library will hold the first book discussion of the annual Winter Reading Series.
Mike Zook will be the discussion leader for the book “Orphan Train” by Christiana Baker Kline.
