Havre's Jace Billy headed to Shrine Game

The Hi-Line has a long tradition of putting football players into the Montana East-West Shrine Game, the most prestigious football All-Star game in the state.

And this year will be no different.

Jace Billy, a defensive end for the Havre Blue Ponies, was selected as a member of the East squad and will take part in the 2015 version of the game which will be played July 18 in Great Falls. The standout defensive lineman, who earned Central A All-Conference and Class A All-State honors this season, was the only player from along the Hi-Line to be selected.

Billy, who is also an individual wrestling state champion and committed to wrestle at Montana State University-Northern next season, will play for Gary Lowry of CMR, who is the head coach of the East roster. Lowry led the Rustlers to the Class AA state championship game this fall, where they were defeated by Glacier High school.

During his senior season, Billy moved from linebacker to defensive end due to depth issues for Havre along the defensive line and the move proved to be a rousing success. At times, the three-year starter was unlockable and finished the season with a total of 60 tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks.

Billy's strong play was even more evident down the stretch. In home wins late in the season against both Polson and Browning, Billy had two sacks and also had a sack in Havre's 48-47 loss in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Miles City.

The West team will be coached by Don Peoples, the head coach of Butte Central, which lost in the Class A championship game to Dillon.

The 69th annual East-West Shrine Game will take place July 18 in Great Falls.
