Holiday hayrides

Community hayride rounds up a large crowd

A long line formed at Havre-Hill County Library Saturday afternoon for a community hayride. A horse-drawn wagon was used in the rides, and this brought in many families. Each ride was around 10 minutes long and went through town. U.S. Border Patrol-Havre sector agents were on hand to make sure everyone remained safe on the icy roads.

Lori Roberts, the children's librarian, planned this event and said that she participated in hayrides when she was a child.

"I thought this would be something new to bring to the library," she said.

Jack Solomon and his wife, Patti, volunteered to give the hayrides using their horse, Bill.

Solomon said he has been around horses all of his life.

"I grew up on a ranch just south of Havre," he said. "It's just fun for the kids."

Brydin Wilson, 3 ,attended the hayride. He said his favorite part of the hayride was "riding."

Aaron Hargrove, 7, said he enjoyed the hayride.

"It was good," he said.

Hargrove added that his favorite part of the hayride was "hitting the bumps."

Rachel Hargrove, Aaron's mom, said this event brought people together.

Hargrove also said this event was a way for people to find "fun opportunities for people to get together and have fun."

Santa Claus made an appearance and visited with the children. Homemade cookies and hot apple cider, supplied by the Friends of the Havre-Hill County Library, were available for the guests.

Claus said that the Solomons donated the use of their horse and their own time to the event.

"This worked out very well," he said. "You can see the excitement from the kids from that."
