For the first time in several years, Havre will have a female police officer.
City Council approved the appointment of Victoria Olson as a probationary police officer at Monday night’s council meeting.
A Havre native, Olson graduated from Havre High School and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Kaplan University. She is a chief detention officer at the Hill County Correctional Facility and reserve officer for the Havre police force and the Hill County Sheriff’s Office.
She will begin Dec. 29.
Councilwoman Janet Trethewey praised Acting Police Chief Gabe Matoscih for getting a woman back on the force.
“It’s been a while,” the chief responded.
In other news at Monday’s meeting, council unanimously ratified Mayor Tim Solomon’s appointment to the Havre-Hill County Airport Board.
