Ruth Eleanor Ophus Pegar, 90, passed away at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, Dec. 5, 2014, of natural causes. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., at Hi-Line Funeral Services of Montana, at 310 South Dell, in Havre. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Big Sandy.

Ruth was born in Havre Jan. 17, 1924, to Anton and Pearl Ophus and grew up on the family homestead southeast of Big Sandy with her 13 brothers and sisters.
On June 8, 1942, she married Roy Pegar and they farmed southeast of Big Sandy for the next 60 years. Roy passed away in December 2002.
Ruth's life was full, gardening, traveling, photography and painting were just a few of her hobbies, but her greatest love and source of joy was her family. She was proud to be a member of the "Ophus Clan." and you could find her at every family reunion setting up her picture boards.
Ruth is survived by the couple's six children, Lynn (Jarold) Schmidt of Havre, Pam (Arnie) Gasvoda of Big Sandy, Randy (Linell) Pegar of Big Sandy, Rusty (Tena) Pegar and Joe Pegar of Billings, and Phyllis (Doug) Gagner of Missoula.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. One grandson Travis Pegar preceeded her in death as well as five brothers and three sisters. Four brothers and one sister survive.
In lieu of cards or flowers and in honor of Ruth's wishes, the family requests donations of canned food or money to the Big Sandy food bank or charity of your choice.
