Obituary - Edward A. Alex

YORK, Pa. - Edward A. Alex, 80, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania.

He was the husband of Peggy A. Alex. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 11, 2014.

A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, Pennsylvania, with the Rev. Daniel Mitzel officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.

Born March 11, 1934, in Havre, Montana, Edward was a son of the late Anthony Joseph Alex Jr. and Verda Fern (Norenburg) Alex. He worked in the accounting division of the United States Postal Service for over 20 years until his retirement in 1989.

Mr. Alex served our country during the Korean War in the United States Navy and during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Mr. Alex was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Edward was also a member of the Eagles Club, the Elks Lodge #213 and the West York VFW 8951.

In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by a son, Anthony Alex and his wife Carol of Dacula, Georgia; four grandchildren, Nathan Alex, Lindsey Alex, Christian Alex and Jessica Greene; a great-granddaughter, Maevyn Hull; two brothers, Alan Alex and his wife Gail of Havre, and John Alex and his companion Diane of Casper, Montana; three sisters, Cheryl Evans and her husband Robert of Havre, Montana, Pam Essary and her husband Ben of Stevensville, Montana, and Marilyn Lang and her husband Bud of Gildford, Montana; a sister-in-law, Gladys Alex, wife of the late Dennis Alex, of Martinez, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents Mr. Alex was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Alex and Thomas Alex.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Edward Alex to the National Institute of Health (Cancer Research), 9000 Rockville Pike, Building 3111A16, Bethsada, MD 20892 or to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, 90 Hope Drive, PO 852, Hershey, PA 17033.
