Temperatures expected to rise

It was a cold weekend, but Havre made it through. Outdoor events, such as the inaugural Santa Run took place this past weekend, despite the temperatures dipping down to a low of minus 9 degrees.

Havre resident Dave Dunn participated in the Santa Run Saturday before the tree lighting ceremony.

“It could have been worse,” he said.

Dunn also said that the cold temperatures have not really affected his life.

“As long as everybody just stays bundled up and takes precautions — that’s the main thing,” he added.

Despite the sub-zero nights, temperatures are expected to rise.

Jonathan Suk, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Great Falls, said the cause of these cold nights are due to a cold front that came in Friday afternoon.

“It went from about 30 degrees down to single digits between 1 o’clock and 4 o’clock. By 11 o’clock that night we were below 0,” he said.

Suk also said that snow is not to be expected for the next week or so.

“It’s actually looking like we’re going to be warming back up and remaining relatively quiet weatherwise,” he said.

Suk added that the cold nights will continue on until about Thursday and that today will bring a high of about 20 degrees with an overnight low of around 4 degrees.

“The lows should actually be in the teens Thursday night into Friday,” he said.

According to The Weather Channel, snow is not to be expected and the sun will be making appearances throughout the week, with highs ranging from the mid-20 s to high 30s — with a high of 37 degrees Friday.
