Evelyn was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in Havre to Siguard and Neva (Miller) Arntzen. She was raised on the family farm about 30 miles north of Havre, attending school through eighth grade at Miller School. After eighth grade, Evelyn remained on the family farm to help her parents until her marriage to Otto Patera in 1944. The couple established a farm near her parents, and raised their daughter there. In 1985, the couple moved to Havre, but continued to farm until Otto passed away in 1994. At that time, Evelyn leased the farm and continued to live in Havre until her passing. She still enjoyed hearing about the farm for it was evident that farming was in her heart.
Evelyn was a quiet, but happy and bubbly woman who loved to please others. She was an excellent cook and well noted for her pies. She enjoyed visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. She loved spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a past member of the Cottonwood Home Demonstration Club for 50 years. She was also a longtime member of the Cottonwood Ladies Aide, Farmer's Union, Sons of Norway and First Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Otto; and her parent, Siguard and Neva Arntzen.
Evelyn in survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jack) Spinner of Havre; her grandchildren, Tanya (Dan) Sciuchetti of Billings, Trista (Jason) Hofman of Manhattan, Tiffany Spinner of Billings, and Otto Spinner of Havre; five great-grandchildren and numerous relatives-in-law.
