Blue Ponies earn Central A honors

Havre High QB Dane Warp named Central A Offensive MVP

The 2014 football season did not end the way the Havre Blue Ponies wanted. But, even though they were defeated in the first round of the Class A state playoffs, Havre still had plenty of members on the 2014 Central A All-Conference team.

Unlike last season, when eight of Havre’s 12 selections came on the offensive side of the ball, the Ponies had a total of 13 players make the team this fall. Six of them were offensive players, five were defenders and two came on special teams. So, not only did the Ponies get one more player selected than a season ago, the distribution was much more balanced.

The highest honor went to Havre quarterback Dane Warp, who earned Co-First Team honors at quarterback with Belgrade’s Brayden Konkol. Yet, there was only one Central A Offensive Player of the Year and that distinction went to Warp. Warp had a strong junior season for the Blue Ponies, throwing for more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Sophomore Parker Filius, who was among the Central A leaders in receptions and receiving yards throughout the season earned First-Team honors at wide receiver. The other offensive players to earn a place on the team were Michael Compton at guard, Issac Warp at wide receiver, Jase Stokes at fullback and Jase Kato at tight end.

On the defensive side of the things, the Ponies had three First-Team selections, highlighted by Jace Billy at defensive end. Filius also earned First-Team honors at strong safety along with Travis Adams at defensive tackle.

Havre also had two players make Second-Team All-Conference defensively and those players were Kato at outside linebacker and Stokes at inside linebacker.

Senior Tyrell Pierce was headed for an All-Conference season at defensive end before his season was cut short due to injury but still managed to make the team as a punter, earning an honorable mention. Gunner Aageson also got an honorable mention on the team as a kicker.

The Central A Conference Defensive Player of the Year was Belgrade cornerback Koby Ruff.

Havre finished the season at 4-6 overall, with a 2-2 record in the Central A, which was good enough for a third-place finish in the final standings. Havre was defeated by Miles City 48-47 in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
