Havre Trails created, to hold meeting

The first official Havre Trails meeting will be held Dec. 8 at Property West LLC at 5:30 p.m.

The group has been formed to push for the completion of trail projects in the area and promote walking and biking in the community.

After the meeting Dec. 8, they will be meeting the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. at the Elks Club.

Property West LLC is located at 129 3rd Ave..

According to the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, there are 13 walking paths in Havre. A few of them are along city streets others are groomed trails. The Baltrusch Trail, which begins near the corner of 17th Street and 12th Avenue, is about 2.6 miles if one takes the south fork near the first half of the trail, or .7 if taken north.

The River Dike Trail begins near the south end of the Milk River Bridge on 7th Avenue and stretches 1.8 miles west.

These are the two major nature trails in Havre. The rest are on streets, tracks and in parks. Maps of the trails in Havre can be found at the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce office on 5th Avenue.

There are currently no bike lanes in the city of Havre.
