As a parent of a Havre High School student who is participating in sports, I feel I need to address a few points brought up by Angela Pratt in the article about the school play.
I do not believe that any activity more than any other has “good kids” or ”bad kids.” Whether a students has straight A’s or not does not always determine what type of kid they are. There are students who are “good kids” who are working hard to maintain the highest GPA they can.
We are fortunate to have local schools that offer a selection of extracurricular activities for our students to participate in. This allows students to choose the activity they enjoy the most.
We wouldn’t want all of our students to participate in the same activity. Each child is given different gifts from God, and, as a parent, it is our job to help them explore those gifts.
I would rather have us parents encourage each child, our own and others, to excel in their chosen activity. Let us not make it more difficult for our students to maneuver these four years of high school than it already may be.
