The Bullhook Bombshells, the group that aspires to be Havre’s first roller derby team, held their first organizational meeting Wednesday evening in the Community Room at Holiday Village Mall.
At the start of the meeting, Amber Wells, the founder of the team, suggested the group elect officers.
Wells was elected as president and Lana Dramstad was voted in to be vice president.
Additionally, Beth Hannah was elected secretary-treasurer, and Nikki Gregori was named the public relations officer for the team.
“Every single person who skates has to be part of a committee. ... Everybody would have to be in a position under one of these positions.” Wells added.
The topic of locating a facility for the Bullhook Bombshells to use was also discussed.
Dramstad mentioned the Mat Corner proposal and how bidding for the facility may not be a good idea.
“Even if by some miracle we can come up with what they are asking for it … . There’s no guarantee that we will get it,” she said.
Dramstad also mentioned how Montana State University-Northern has a gym room underneath their main gym.
“That’s another possibility,” she added.
Other potential facilities that were discussed include part of the Human Resources Development Council building, Patterson Park and the Old Stone Child College gym at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.
The Bombshells discussed many fundraising ideas. The team has a spaghetti dinner event set for Nov. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eagles Club. A silent auction and raffle will be take place there as well.
Wells stated she also wants to throw a New Year’s Eve Zombie Prom event.
“I feel excited about this because (the band,) Cheeseboot is willing to play for a show — January is our skate date,” she said.
Other fundraiser ideas include various craft fairs and bake sales.
Proceeds will help the Bombshells with start-up costs and to purchase gear.
The team also discussed the possibility of throwing a scrimmage to show the public what roller derby is all about.
“We do have to get out there and show them that we can skate and show them that we know what we are doing,” Wells said.
The next meeting is set for Nov. 14.
As of now, 36 people have signed up to be a part of this organization, which is applying for its nonprofit.
