High School locker rooms complete

Andy Carlson, the superintendent of Havre Public Schools, said the locker room renovations at Havre High School are complete and the new facilities are being used.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the high school will give the public a chance to see the work that has been done at the school.

“We really want people to see what’s been done,” he said. “Anybody who goes in there will be proud of what’s gone into it. … These buildings do belong to the community, and I think the final product is something they’re really going to be proud of.”

The football team has been using it for several weeks now, he said, and the physical education classes have been sharing them.

“We have more locker room space now than when we started the project,” Carlson said.

Before the project, the high school had three locker rooms: a men’s, a women’s and a third that was used for referees, storage and other purposes. Both the locker rooms were smaller and the third was in disarray and disrepair.

Carlson said by putting in the four locker rooms, it will be much easier for the district to host visitor opponents.

“It’s going to make the 9C so much easier,” he said. “ … We actually gained space in this project.”

Carlson said the work at Sunnyside Intermediate School is also going well. The children are back into the classrooms and they are working on the east playground and reinstalling the basketball courts.

“We’re hitting that point where we’re starting to utilize some of the improvements,” Carlson said.

The construction of the new library at Sunnyside has also begun, but the library will remain in the portable buildings for the rest of the year.

“We knew at Sunnyside, there would be obstructions,” he said. “But it’s nice that we have the classroom space being utilized.”

Carlson said the ribbon ceremony will be at 4:30 Nov. 12 and tours will be given until 6.

“If people want to come and just walk through, they’re more than welcome,” Carlson said.
