As a result of playing so well in her last two home volleyball matches, Montana State University-Northern’s Dayna Jensen has been honored by the Frontier Conference.
Jensen was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week. Jensen is a 5-8 junior outside hitter from Lewistown. MSU-Northern went 2-0 on the weekend. The Skylights swept Montana Western 3-0 and downed Westminster College 3-2.
She averaged 4.60 kills and 4.80 digs in the match with a .389 hitting percentage. Jensen had 23 kills and 24 digs to extend her streak of double-doubles to eight matches. Against UM-Western Saturday night, Jensen had a season-high 18 kills to go along with 19 digs.
Carroll College’s Mac Roche was named Frontier Football Offensive Player of the Week. Roche is a sophomore quarterback from Whitefish. In then-No. 2 Carroll’s 55-13 win over Montana State-Northern, Roche was 17 of 24 passing for 280 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed 10 times for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
UM-Western defensive back Jess McCloud was named Defensive Player of the Week. McCloud is a senior safety, from Manhattan. In Western’s 30-27 win over College of Idaho, McCloud recorded seven solo tackles and six assisted tackles, two pass breakups and one interception. His interception came late in the game when College of Idaho was driving for either the tying or winning score. McCloud’s interception sealed the Western win. Carroll kicker Matt Weist hit two field goals against Northern and was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
In basketball, Zach Taylor of Carroll College was named Men’s Player of the Week, while Montana Tech freshman Martha Dembek was named Women’s Player of the Week.
In the latest NAIA Football Coaches Poll, Carroll remained at No. 2 this week, and Southern Oregon stayed at No. 5. Eastern Oregon moved up two spots to No. 21, while Rocky Mountain College fell out of the poll.
