Monte Yellow Bird Sr., a Native artist known for his work with Plains Indians and his use of vibrant colors, will be the featured artist for the 44th Annual Havre Art Association Art Show & Sale that will be held Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The art show will take place at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church, 410 5th Ave.
According to an Havre Art Association press release, Yellow Bird signs his artwork using the name Black Pinto Horse.
Yellow Bird said he has been doing artwork since he was in diapers. He said that many things influenced him to begin creating art.
“I was inspired by my environment and my culture — it was really a springboard of influence,” he said this morning.
According to Yellow Bird’s website, https://blackpintohorsefinearts.com, he and his wife, Emily combine fine art and education within their company, Black Pinto Horse Fine Arts. They form partnerships with galleries, museums and educational institutions all over the world.
Yellow Bird said that the art show is important to the community because it exposes people to the arts, as well as the notions of creativity and expression.
“It also models the ideal of working on successes as well those dreams,” he added.
Marie Ann Toldness, treasurer of the art association and registrar for the show, said that there will be a wide variety of art on display.
“It’s a cultural thing — exposing people to art” she said. “It gives the artists a chance to get their work out too.”
Toldness also said that Yellow Bird will give a presentation at about 2 p.m. each day of the event for the public.
“We’ve been doing this 44 years now… it’s a nice way to spend the afternoon,” Toldness said.
