A local Havre woman has a lot of free time, and she chooses to use that time to make a difference in the community.
Peggy Kemp, 86, sews blankets for every newborn baby that is born at Northern Montana Hospital.
"I have always liked to sew," Kemp said.
Helping others comes naturally for Kemp.
"I have to have my hands busy - so why not do something that helps the babies?"
Kemp said that her blanket-making project is done through 5th Avenue Christian Church. Other women in her church are involved with this project, as well.
"We make them and then one of the women takes them over to the hospital," she said.
Dawn Sprinkle, a registered nurse at the hospital, said that Kemp and her group sew blankets using fabric that is based on the seasons or holidays at the time in which they are donated.
"Every month they bring us three bags of blankets," she said.
Sprinkle said that Kemp has been donating blankets to the hospital for around 10 years.
"We think it is marvelous."
Emily Kallenberger, a teacher at Havre Middle School, said that she received blankets for both her daughter and son when they were born.
"It is so sweet to get that little gift when you have your baby there at the hospital," she said. "It is like a keepsake from the hospital where they were born at. I have kept both of them."
