Obituary - Lawrence Faber

Lawrence Faber of Cleveland passed away of natural causes on Oct.. 23, 2014, just six days after his 88th birthday.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Chinook High School Auditorium with a reception afterwards at the Wallner Hall.

Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. Condolences may be left for the family at http://edwardsfuneralhomemt.com.

Born to Theodore and Mary Ellen Faber, Lawrence grew up on a ranch south of Big Sandy with his parents and younger brother, Leo. Life wasn't always the easiest as Lawrence learned when he lost his mother to cancer when he was only 12 years old.

He was a graduate of Big Sandy High School in 1944 and later spent two years with the Army's 271st Artillery Division in Japan.

In 1951, Lawrence married Leatrice Butler and they made their home east of Big Sandy for 13 years before moving to Cleveland. Together they raised four children.

Lawrence spent over 60 years ranching in which he thoroughly enjoyed. He took great pride in his cattle and hay operation. Lawrence was a hard worker; however, it was noted if there was something he didn't want to do he would go out flying or go "salt the cows."

Lawrence also took time out of his hard work at the ranch in order to be on the Triangle Telephone Board for 12 years, a member of the school board, Montana Stockgrowers, American Cattlemen's Association, Flying Farmers, and the Farmers Union Board.

One thing that won't be forgotten was Lawrence's passion for flying. He loved to tell the story of learning to fly on skis. He even had his own hanger and landed his plane out in the hayfield. He also liked cars, whether it was new cars or old cars they seemed to catch his interest. Among some of Lawrence's favorite vehicles was his 1954 Dodge Power Wagon and his 1941 Chevy pickup. Auction sales were also at the top of his list, in which he hoped to see and visit with an old friend there.

Lawrence spent the last four years living at the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook under the tender care of their staff. Lawrence's family would like to thank them all for ensuring he was taken care of until the very end. He will be missed by many friends, neighbors and family, but after almost four years in the rest home it was past time to "go salt the cows".

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary Ellen. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Leatrice Faber, daughter Arleen (Kent) Lybeck, son Larry (Mary) Faber, daughter Laurie Faber, daughter Connie (Don) Cornell, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and brother, Leo (Beverly) Faber.
