Vaccine available to make people into 'flu fighters'

Flu season is here, and the Hill County Health Department urges everyone to get their flu vaccines.

Kim Larson, program assistant at Hill County Health Department, said that getting vaccinated is important.

"It is the best way to protect yourself from getting the flu. Every year there are different flu strains," she said.

Flu shots and the FluMist are available at the health department office, at 302 4th Ave.

Larson said the difference between the flu shot and the mist is that the mist is a live virus and starts working right away. The shot form is a dead virus and takes about two weeks to go into full-effect.

In addition to the Hill County Health Department, Larson said all of the pharmacies in town have the vaccine and offer shots.

This includes: Gary and Leo's Health Mart at Gary at Leo's Fresh Foods, Western Drug, Kmart and Walmart.

Bullhook Clinic and the Family Medical Center at Northern Montana Health Care are also offering the services.

The Hill County Health Department's vaccine clinics will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday from 8.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Larson said they offer influenza shots on their regular Tuesday shot days as well.
