Sue Nieuwenhuyse, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at her residence of natural causes after a long and courageous battle with multiple medical conditions.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Pastor Frank Donato officiating. Her family has requested that memorials be made in Sue's name to the Havre Girl Scouts, the Montana State University-Northern nursing program or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Sue was born on June 11, 1937, in Newton, Iowa, to Carl and Ada (Holeman) Streeter. She was raised in Iowa, graduating from high school there and graduating from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Nursing Corps in 1960, and proudly served her country both in the United States and overseas.
Sue worked for several years in Iowa before relocating to Montana, finally settling in Havre in 1968. She married Bob Nieuwenhuyse in 1976 in Havre, and the couple's union was blessed with a daughter, Lynette. They raised Lynette in Havre, where Sue worked as a nurse for Northern Montana Hospital, Havre Clinic and family planning.
Sue was a friendly and compassionate lady who was very active in the community. She enjoyed singing with the Wild Rose Harmonizers, volunteered with the Red Cross and the Girl Scouts, served as the first president of the Havre Firefighters Auxiliary, was a dedicated member and officer of the local and Montana State Nurses Association and was very active in the Sixth Avenue Christian Church and then the Fifth Avenue Christian Church. ue was a kind and caring soul who adored her family, and for the past several years, her greatest joy was sharing time with her grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ada Streeter; her aunts and uncles; and her sister-in-law Marjorie Streeter.
Left to honor Sue's memory is her husband of 38 years, Bob Nieuwenhuyse of Havre; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynette and Darren Stortz; and his parents, Andy and Jody Stortz all of Havre; her grandsons, Ethan and Aaron Stortz of Havre; her brother, Jack Streeter of Newton, Iowa; her niece, Shelley Buhrow and husband, Don of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and their family; and her cousins, Fred, Robert and Mark Stouffer and their families.
