I just had the honor, along with my Leadership Montana 2015 Cohort, to spend three wonderful days in this amazing part of the world. We all know that Montana is the world's largest small town, and its was an absolute pleasure to be invited to the "Northside of Town" for a bit.
As a resident of another small Montana community with a significant assets, pride and unique history, Livingston, I felt an immediate connection to Havre. That was only the beginning. The best part was being welcomed into your homes and businesses to truly live the Havre experience.
I want to extend my personal thanks to the leaders and hosts of these Havre-area organizations: BNSF Railway Co., Montana State University-Northern, the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, the Customs and Border Patrol Havre Sector, the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, Enell, Columbia Grain, Bear Paw Development Corp. and Northern Montana Health Care who personally invested their time and other resources to deepen my individual understanding of this great part of "our town."
I even stayed a bit longer to witness and attend the first International Festival run by Northern's Office of Diversity, some dedicated students and professors at MSU-Northern Saturday afternoon.
Amazing! Havre truly does have it all: Moroccan belly dancing and wonderful discussion about the uniqueness of the nation of Bangladesh? Yep, that just happened. Right here in Havre. It's the people. Havre — you do have a good thing going.
I also want to acknowledge and thank my two Havre-area Leadership Montana peers: Mr. Joel Rosette of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy and Mr. Carson Sweeney of NorthWestern Energy. It was (and is) an honor for me to walk next to these great leaders. Joel and Carson are two more examples of what is so great about your region.
And just so you know, when you want to check out the "Southside of town," Livingston extends an open invitation. C'mon down!
