Authorities arrested an Amtrak passenger Thursday after a search warrant led to the seizure of 31.24 pounds of marijuana and marijuana products.
According to a Tri-Agency Safe Trails Task Force press release, Amtrak personnel contacted authorities to report an individual who smelled of marijuana.
Mohamed Yasin Aboubaker was arrested on felony charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession with intent to distribute and carrying dangerous drugs on a train. His bond is set at $75,000.
With the help of the U.S. Border Patrol, agents confronted Aboubaker when the train arrived at Havre at around noon. Aboubaker was at first released and continued on his westward journey. But authorities held his luggage pending a search warrant.
A later search of his belongings revealed several large bags of marijuana, marijuana-infused foods and hashish.
Aboubaker was then taken into custody when the train arrived in Malta.
He was transported back to the Hill County Detention Center.
The agency press release did not say how old Aboubaker is, where he is from, or where he was headed.
Havre Police Lt. Aaron Whitmer, the task force’s project director, was unavailable for comment this morning.
