MSU-N's Faupel earns Frontier honor

Just one week into the 2014-15 NAIA basketball season, the Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball team already has a Frontier Conference Player of the Week.

Northern sophomore Natalee Faupel earned the honor following the Skylights’ wins over Concordia-Alberta and King’s University last weekend in Edmonton, Alberta. Faupel, a Butte native, averaged 16 points, six rebounds, 5.5 assists, one steal and one block in Northern’s two wins. Faupel was 12-of-18 from the field (67 percent) and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line (100 percent).

In football, Rocky Mountain College’s Andre McCullouch was named Offensive Player of the Week. McCullouch, a junior wide receiver, caught 10 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 yards and one touchdown in RMC’s overtime win over Montana Tech last Saturday.

Southern Oregon senior linebacker Heston Altenbach was named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in SOU’s win over UM-Western last Saturday. College of Idaho’s Kevin McLemore, a junior punter, was named Special Team’s Player of the Week for his performance in C of I’s win over Montana State University-Northern last Saturday.

In the latest NAIA Football Coaches Poll, released Monday afternoon, four Frontier schools remain ranked. Carroll College moved up to No. 3 and Southern Oregon rose one spot to No. 4. Those two teams meet Saturday in Helena. RMC also rose two spots to No. 15, while Eastern Oregon dropped five spots to No. 20 following a loss to the Saints last Saturday.
