The Timely Trio, a group of ladies who have sung in the Havre area since 1983, will be sharing their intricate harmony and sensitive, soulful interpretations once again locally.
Their concert, sponsored by Montana Synodical Women, will be held Saturday, 7 to 9 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Admission is $7.
The Montana Synodical Women agreed to open the concert to the public since the Trio has not sung in the Havre area for quite some time.
“We very much appreciate the ladies inviting the community,” said Dena Tippets, one of the members of the Trio from Havre. The other members are Mavis Filler of Havre and Kim Callahan of Dickinson, North Dakota.
Kim Callahan and family left Havre in 1986, two days after the trio produced its first recording. The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce director at that time, Lynda Patrick-Hayes, received enough local support to sponsor the recording.
Callahan had written “The Havre Song” which was the primary song on that recording. The Timely Trio sang the song about Havre for several years at every opportunity, when it was supported by the Chamber office.
“It is a descriptive song about our little town on the Hi-line that just makes one proud to live here,” said Filler of the Trio. “For many years Darla Cook, the previous choral director at Havre Middle School, taught the song to her classes every year. It always felt good to go to their concerts and hear the song many had come to love over the years.”
In their concert, they will be including a song written by Callahan called “Farewell Fort Assinniboine,” which is a ballad about an imaginary little boy who could have been raised at the fort by the Buffalo Soldiers.
“Kim is an incredible poet with an extensive vocabulary which is expressed in her varied repertoire of spiritual, hilarious and historical songs. I love when I get to ‘oooooo’ so I don’t have to learn all the words!” said Filler with a laugh. “I just write the old-fashioned love songs!”
Timely Trio has three CDs which will be available at the concert Saturday evening. “We hope you will come out for the evening and relax and enjoy our music,” said the Trio members.
