Pony harriers ready to race in Lewistown

After competing in one of the most difficult and demanding meets in all of Montana, the Havre High cross country teams will be back in action this week as they continue to prepare for the Central A divisional meet next month.

Last week, the Blue Ponies ran at the Mountain West Classic in Missoula, which featured a host of Class AA and A schools from Montana as well as competition from other states such as Washington, Idaho and Wyoming. Now, HHS will run at Lewistown Friday morning as they get a chance to measure themselves against their Central A rival and others at the Lewistown Invitational.

The Ponies are just two weeks away from running at the Central A Divisional meet, which will also take place in Lewistown. Leading up to that, HHS will try to fine tune some things such as pack times and individual times for its most important stretch of the season.

Friday in Lewistown, the HHS girls will have a full complement of runners led by Morgan Mazurkiewicz and Rachel David, who have each posted top-10 individual finishes this season. Rounding out the remainder of the varsity squad for the Pony girls this week will be Tori Mazurkiewicz, Rainey Stoner, Meggie Zook, Maya Reed and Rachel Majeres.

On the boy's side of things, Brandon Robertson, who was the team's top overall finisher a week ago at the Mountain West Classic, will continue to be the top runner. Following him for the Ponies will be Jamie Lieberg, Cameron Knapton, Brock Ross, Sundance Lodge, Austin Jones and Dylan Stewart.

In addition to the HHS varsity teams competing in Lewistown, the junior varsity squads for both the boys and girls teams will also be in action.

The Lewistown Invite will get underway Friday morning at 10 a.m. in Lewistown. The Ponies will be home for their only home meet of the season in Havre Oct. 4. Then, they will close out the regular season Oct. 9 in Helena.
